What is MSDS?

MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) is a chemical safety data sheet, which can also be translated as a chemical safety data sheet or a chemical safety data sheet. It is used by chemical manufacturers and importers to clarify the physical and chemical properties of chemicals (such as pH value, flash point, flammability, reactivity, etc.) and a document that may cause harm to the user’s health (such as carcinogenicity, teratogenicity, etc.).
In European countries, material safety technology/data sheet MSDS is also called safety technology/data sheet SDS (Safety Data Sheet). The International Standardization Organization (ISO) adopts the term SDS, but in the United States, Canada, Australia and many countries in Asia, the term MSDS is adopted.
MSDS is a comprehensive legal document on chemical characteristics provided by chemical production or sales enterprises to customers according to legal requirements. It provides 16 items including physical and chemical parameters, explosive properties, health hazards, safe use and storage, leakage disposal, first aid measures and relevant laws and regulations of chemicals.  MSDS can be written by the manufacturer in accordance with the relevant rules. However, in order to ensure the accuracy and standardization of the report, it is possible to apply to a professional organization for compilation.

 The Purpose of MSDS

In China: For the domestic air and sea export business, each airline and shipping company have different regulations. Some products can be arranged for air and sea transportation based on the information reported by MSDS, but some shipping companies and airlines must comply with “IMDG”, “IATA “Regulations to arrange air and sea transportation, at this time, in addition to providing MSDS reports, it is also necessary to provide transportation identification reports at the same time.
Overseas: When the goods are sent from foreign regions to China, the MSDS report is the basis for evaluating the international transportation of this product. MSDS can help us know whether the imported product is classified as dangerous goods. At this time, it can be used directly as a customs clearance document.
In international logistics and shipping, MSDS report is like a passport, which is indispensable in the import and export transportation process of many countries.
Whether it is domestic trade or international trade in all countries in the world, the seller must provide legal documents describing the product. Due to the different legal documents on chemical management and trade in different countries and even states in the United States, some of them change every month. Therefore, it is recommended to apply to a professional organization for preparation. If the MSDS provided is incorrect or the information is incomplete, you will face legal responsibility.

The Difference between MSDS and Air Freight appraisal report:

MSDS is not a test report or identification report, nor is it a certification project, but a technical specification, such as the “Air Transport Condition Identification Report” (air transport identification) is fundamentally different.
Manufacturers can weave MSDS by themselves according to product information and relevant laws and regulations. If the manufacturer does not have the talent and ability in this area, it can entrust a professional company to prepare; and the air freight appraisal must be issued by a professional appraisal company approved by the Civil Aviation Administration.
One MSDS corresponds to one product, and there is no validity period. As long as it is this kind of product, this MSDS can be used all the time, unless laws and regulations change, or new dangers of the product are discovered, it needs to be in accordance with new regulations or new Hazards are reprogrammed; and air transport identification has a validity period, and usually cannot be used across years.

Generally divided into ordinary products and lithium battery products:
MSDS for ordinary products: the validity period is related to regulations, as long as the regulations remain unchanged, this MSDS report can be used all the time;
Lithium battery products: The MSDS report of lithium battery products is as of December 31 of the year
Air freight appraisal can generally only be issued by qualified professional appraisal companies recognized by the civil aviation administration of the country, and generally need to send samples to the appraisal report for professional testing, and then issue the appraisal report. The validity period of the appraisal report is generally used in the current year, and after the new year, it generally needs to be done again.
